National screening programmes in the Netherlands
The Dutch government offers free, voluntary screening by invitation, including breast and cervical cancer screening. If you have symptoms, contact your huisarts without waiting for an invitation.
Breast cancer screening
Women aged 50 to 75 receive an invitation to a regional screening centre. Current RIVM information describes an interval of two to three years depending on scheduling. Participation is free. Further hospital tests may be covered by health insurance and may involve the mandatory deductible (eigen risico).
Contact your huisarts for breast symptoms or changes rather than waiting for screening.
Cervical cancer screening
Invitations usually arrive at ages 30, 35, 40, 50 and 60, and sometimes at 45, 55 or 65 depending on previous results. You can arrange a cervical sample at your GP practice or request a self-sampling kit through Mijn Bevolkingsonderzoek. Participation is free and voluntary. Discuss gynaecological symptoms with your huisarts instead of waiting for the next invitation.
Information in Polish
RIVM provides multilingual information. Steffie explains the programmes step by step, including in Polish. Mijn Bevolkingsonderzoek uses DigiD.
Private examination
A private consultation or test at Stichting Med Partners is a separate pathway and does not automatically replace public screening.
